Scizor, Ferrotress, Genesect and Volocorna are popular bug type pokemon that are used in ou. But there is 1 pokemon that competes for that: Metapod. Metapod’s nice stat spread and move pool gives the pupa a diverse group of sets which you don’t what Metapod is going to do. Is it a Choice Band Sweeper? A Wall? Only Metapod knows that. Also Metapod’s single Bug type helps it not get screwed as badly as Scizor, Ferrotress, and Genesect by Choice Band Talonflame, and Volocarna’s huge Stealth Rock weakness. However, Metapod still loses 25% weak to Stealth Rock and gets hurt by Spikes and Sticky Web. The hazards are the only reason why Metapod is Ou and not Ubers. So use it!
Choice Band
Metapod @ Choice Band
Ability: Shed Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Naughty Nature
- Bug Bite
- Tackle
- Electroweb
- String Shot
This Set Maximizes Metapod’s awesome attack stat. Your main move will be Bug Bite, stealing berries are so awesome. Tackle is for those that resist both Bug Bite and Electroweb such as Zapdos. Electroweb is for that Talonflame switch in which lower’s its speed. String Shot is for Ground types what are immune to Electroweb.
Mighty Wall
Metapod @ Eviolite
Ability: Shed Skin
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP
Bold Nature
- Electroweb
- Snore
- Iron Defense
- String Shot
With its bulk and Eviolite, Metapod has a better Defense Stat then Genescet and Volocarna, which shows why pupas are awesome. Electroweb is to weaken a opponent in which will make your revenge killer’s job easier. Snore is to take on those Spores and Sleep Powder with ease. Iron Defense is to raise that all mighty bulk, becoming a Mighty Pupa at 4x defense. When this bug sets up, its hard to take down.
The OG!
Metapod @ Eviolite
Ability: Shed Skin
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP
Bold Nature
- Harden
- Tackle
Want a real challenge? Use the OG set. From Red and Blue, this set is agreed by Bug Catchers everywhere to be awesome cause it is hilarious to see a Metapod walling a Zekrom.
Other options:
Metapod doesn’t need other options. If Metapod got any other options it will be uber for sure.
Counters:
Its hard to take down, but I can take baby steps. First is knowing which set it is running. The Choice Band set can be walled by something like Skarmory, but watch out for that Electroweb attack. You can use Talonflame to get a easy switch in too but String Shot/ Electroweb hurts. For the Walling set, that best way to do it is to either taunt it or poisoned it. Because when it gets to that 4x Defense, it will be very hard to take down. Finally for the Og set, all you can do is not be cocky and do the same for the Walling set. If you don’t have any of those counters, use Stealth Rock, if you are silly enough to not use Stealth Rock, lord may have mercy on you because Metapod will destory every single team member with its Awesomeness.
